Buying The Ideal Gift for A New-BornThe birth of a baby is a festive occasion for everyone to celebrate. Making the occasion more festive depends on how perfect your gifts are. People offer gifts to both the mother and the newborn baby during the pregnancy or right after the baby is born. However, the perfect time to present a gift should be based on the specific milestones that make an occasion.

Most baby showers are held about one month before the baby is born. The shower is usually thrown by a family member or a close friend and is centered on a theme, such as nursery rhyme characters or Mickey Mouse. If the sex of the baby is known then the decorations can reflect this. Knowing the sex of the baby will also influence the types of gifts that guests will bring.

If a particular theme is used, guests may be invited to bring gifts that reflect it. In most cases though, they just bring whatever they like. Sometimes guests bring a gift for the baby and another for the baby. There are numerous ideas as to what to buy.

Gifting a new born baby provides the new mother with enough items for the nursery. Such types of gifts that help the mother to meet her immediate requirement could be items like baby towels, lotions and baby powder, and bath items. Since no nursery can effectively meet all requirements, such items are highly appreciated by the parents.

Just about any gift will make the new mother happy. One great idea is a photo album. They come in a number of attractive designs and sizes. It won’t take long for the new parents to have it bulging with pictures. Picture frames are a good idea as well. Mom and Dad will want to show their new baby all over the home.

The way that gifts are wrapped and presented can be as fun and whimsical as ever. Gifts that are bought for the bathtub, such as sponges and bath toys, can be put into a large bathtub and wrapped up with a huge towel. Other gifts can be placed in a basket and wrapped up with ribbons and bows.

Coupons to nearby restaurants where the new mother resides are another great gift that makes the new mothers happy. The new parents do not find much time to think of eating from a restaurant. Coupons to restaurants will help them visit one to eat out and have a fine evening.

Chairs and Bassinets are also attractive gifts for new mothers. Even though they are large items, they are ideal gifts as they make new mothers happy. At some showers the guests get together and decide on the larger requirements of the baby and purchase them as a group. This relieves the parents of a costlier investment to cater to the baby’s needs.

Gifts can also be presented on occasions other than baby showers. The newborn’s parents will be happy to receive gifts and cards welcoming the new member when the new baby is born. It will be ideal to wait till the mother and baby are home as carrying all gifts from the hospital to the home will create a lot of uneasiness.

Effects of Daycare on Children - Babies need interaction with other childrenLatchkey kids are a thing of the past and for good reason. Child care is a necessary part of parenting, and there are many services available today to assist with this tough challenge. Societies now encourage children to learn more, become responsible at an earlier age, and to put it simply, grow up faster.

If you can understand some of the ways children benefit from childcare, you will feel you are helping your child grow into a well rounded, happy child instead of punishing the both of you by sticking him in daycare.

Babies need interaction with other children. It’s never too early to start engaging him in activities with other children, whether they are other babies, toddlers or older children. Learning to interact with other children prepares a child for his first encounter with school. A daycare environment is a perfect place to get a child used to other children as he will have to do when he enters preschool or kindergarten. Daycare is a gentler environment, there are less rules and more flexibility than strict teachers may impose.

Children benefit from childcare by learning self-control, how to get along with others, and how to share. They are initiated into the world of friendship. Without daycare, he only knows you; you are his whole world. What a shock to find one day around his 4th birthday he will have to start school and will be away from you at great lengths during the day. Children benefit from childcare by expanding their world to include people other than their parents.

You can also surprise your child and stop by during your lunch break and offer to eat lunch with him, read a book or just play with him. If your child care provider has a website or a newsletter that is sent home, you can plan ahead to attend one of the events they have scheduled, such as a field trip to a museum or a park. Just spending some time with your child is important and meaningful while he is spending his day in child care.

Child care can also mean a family member watching your child. There are still some vital guidelines, however, to follow if this is your child care situation. If the relative is an older person, you certainly want to make sure that they are capable of handling any type of emergency that might arise. Also, if the relative has to take any medication while he is providing child care to your child, the medications should be unavailable to the child. No matter what age a child is, it is strenuous activity at the least.

The key to a positive day care experience is to carefully screen any day care before a child is enrolled. The school should have a low staff to child ratio, with one adult to every two or three children at the infant level, gradually rising as the child increases in age but still sufficient for individual attention.

The teachers should display a genuine love for the children, with experience and training in child development and psychology, allowing them to quickly detect a problem with a student before it becomes uncontrollable. Parents should remain in contact with the child’s teacher, receiving progress reports and observing classroom behavior on a regular basis. Any instance in which a parent is deliberately left “out of the loop” in their child’s education, even at this early stage, is cause for concern, and should be considered an immediate warning sign that all is not as it should be. In this case knowledge is power, and allows a child to quickly be removed from an unsuitable situation before damage is done that is irreversible.

Foods For A Baby With DiarrheaOnce your doctor has discovered and dealt with the cause of your baby’s diarrhea, there are certain foods you can offer that may help “bind” your baby as his delicate intestines recover - and some other foods that you should definitely avoid!

Remember - You should always discuss any episodes of diarrhea with your child’s doctor, as diarrhea can quickly lead to dehydration in young babies.

FOODS THAT CAN HELP STOP BABY’S DIARRHEA

Infant rice cereal
bananas
breast milk/formula
cooked carrots
dry toast
pasta
cooked, white potato
white grape juice
yogurt (bio yogurt in particular, which contains the “gut-friendly” bacteria Lactobacillus. Research has shown that Lactobacillus can be effective in stopping diarrhea. Some paediatricians may also recommend acidophilus supplements, which are available from most vitamin stores)
applesauce

FOODS TO AVOID WHEN BABY HAS DIARRHEA

Cow’s milk-based formula - some doctors will suggest switching to soy formula for a couple of weeks, because your baby’s intestines may have trouble digesting cow’s milk following a nasty bout of diarrhea
dairy products, with the exception of yogurt (for the reasons given above)
cherry juice
apple juice (it may seem confusing, but applesauce firms your baby’s stools whereas apple juice loosens them. This is because applesauce is made from the whole fruit and therefore contains the pectin and fibre that firm stools. Apple juice, on the other hand, contains a natural sugar - sorbitol - which is known to cause or aggravate diarrhea)
pear juice
peaches
apricots
pears
plums
peas
apricots
prunes

BREASTFEEDING

Don’t stop breastfeeding if your baby has diarrhea - it actually helps hasten your baby’s recovery. But consider avoiding things like coffee and cola, which may pass through your milk and make your baby’s diarrhea worse!

A good rule to follow is to feed your baby little and often as he recovers from diarrhea. Babies’ intestines heal relatively slowly, so it may take a while for his stools to firm up completely. If you are at all concerned about persistent diarrhea in your baby, then you should discuss your concerns with your child’s doctor.
